Since 2024, I've been teaching Design, Communication, and Craftsmanship at CUNY City Tech's Communication Design Department once a week. In Spring 2026, "Digital Media Foundations" looks a little different, as the design landscape has shifted. Instead of fighting the AI wave, we’re surfing it. My updated syllabus focuses on:
🧑🏻🏫 Deep-diving into process (presentations, reflections, writing, etc. because the "how" we communicate via digital media matters more than ever).
🧭 Clear AI Protocols -- No AI Permitted, AI-Collaborative, and Full AI Integration-- to help students navigate ethics and collaboration.
🧠 Drafting with AI to practice the art of critique.
Each semester, I invite a guest lecturer to share case studies that shaped their career, along with timeless advice on standing out in the design industry at the entry level.
Michaella Twersky — Product Designer at Google
Guest Lecturer, Fall 2024
Courtney Kan — America Editor at The Washington Post
Guest Lecturer, Spring 2025
I'm available as a guest speaker on health technology and on design and craftsmanship in the age of AI. If you teach at a higher-ed institution working in design, technology, or human-machine interaction, I'd love to hear from you.
